Building on our narrative-writing unit plan, this webinar will delve deeper into what makes a great personal narrative. You will hear from experts, including a New York Times editor who selects stirring personal stories for the popular Modern Love column, and a high school English teacher who uses our narrative-writing unit and mentor texts from The Times to help her students write college essays with voice, style and meaning.

This webinar will feature:

  • Miya Lee, the editor of Modern Love projects at The New York Times

  • Sharon Murchie, an English teacher at Okemos High School in Okemos, Mich.

  • Natalie Proulx, a senior staff editor at The Learning Network

This webinar ties into our Personal Narrative Writing Contest, which invites students to write short, powerful stories about a meaningful experience in their lives.

Recommended prerequisite: Before participating in this webinar, we suggest that you watch our on-demand introductory webinar, Teaching Narrative Writing With The New York Times.

This webinar will be about one hour long, including a live Q. and A. New York educators may receive C.T.L.E. credit. All participants will receive a certificate of completion.
