“If you said you saw this one coming, I don’t believe you,” San Francisco Giants broadcaster Duane Kuiper noted at the conclusion of Saturday’s Giants-A’s game. And he’s right.

The A’s jumped out to an early lead in game two of their latest Bay Bridge series, and looked like they might be able to coast to another victory. Giants ace Kevin Gausman stunk it up (and was maybe interrogated by an umpire over his tattoos), and the Giants were uncharacteristically sloppy when they had chances to put runs on the board. Then, in the top of the ninth inning, down 5-4, manager Gabe Kapler inserted LaMonte Wade Jr. into the ballgame.

As you can see, that proved to be a very wise decision. Wade Jr. — one of the heroes of this surprising Giants season — smacked a two-run homer (No. 16 on the season) that secured a 6-5 victory against Oakland. He put an end to a two-game losing streak for the Giants, who need all the help they can get right now since their division rival Los Angeles Dodgers have won nine games in a row.

The A’s fell to 70-54 overall, and closer Lou Trivino blew his third save of the season.

“I didn’t have anything to say to him,” Giants first baseman Brandon Belt said of his teammate Wade Jr. afterward. “I think he knows he’s a bad ass.”

The Giants and A’s will play again on Sunday at 1:07 p.m.
