1. Homemade Vitamin C Serum: For those of you who don’t know, Vitamin C, when applied topically, is an excellent antioxidant and helps in the production of collagen which gives you flawless skin and also keeps wrinkles at bay. Vitamin C and E, when used regularly, can help reduce the damage caused by the harmful UV rays. So, let’s make our own vitamin C serum. We will make a very small batch which will last you not more than a week and it will be free of all fillers and unnecessary stuff. Remember to use it only at night first. Once your skin gets used to it, you could begin using it during the day as well but be sure to follow it up with a good sunscreen since vitamin c makes your skin photosensitive. I personally prefer to use it only at night. We will make our first batch with 5% potency. You could move it up to 10% once your skin has adapted. However, the maximum prescribed dosage is 20% so ensure that you never ever exceed this limit. Here’s what you need to make this serum:

Pure vitamin c powder (l-ascorbic acid) 1/4 tsp
Distilled water (or rose water). 2 tsp
Glycerine. 1 tsp
Vitamin E gel capsule 1 capsule
An empty glass bottle to store your serum (you could clean and use an old paediatric medicine bottle)

Process:
Step 1: Dissolve the vitamin c powder in the distilled water completely. Just drop the two tablets into the bottle and add distilled water to it. Shake the bottle until the tablets dissolve completely. This way no contamination will take place by multiple handling of products.
Step 2: Add the glycerine to the mix obtained in step 1.
Step 3: Puncture and add the contents of 1 Vitamin E gel capsule. This will help keep your serum stable and add the benefits of vitamin E oil.
Step 4: Store this concoction in a cool and dark place….and voila!

There you have your very own vitamin c serum at 5% potency. Remember to use it within a week’s time and make a fresh batch once a week.

2. Every morning, use a pack of honey, rose water and ginger juice on your face after you brush your teeth. Keep it for about 10 to 15 minutes and wash off with plain water. Take a bit of raw milk and keep it in the refrigerator. Use this as a cleanser with a cotton ball for your face at night. It is a very effective cleanser and also regular usage will lighten any tan or blemish. After that, use cold rose water as a toner. These two things will do cleansing and toning as effectively as any expensive cleanser and toner.
3. Use a pack of curd, haldi and besan on your face and body (remember to apply on your back as well) for two days a week. Cut out thin slices of potato and place over your eyes while you let the face pack dry. This cheap potato slice will be your anti-dark circle eye mask while the pack will be your skin brightening and exfoliating pack.
4. Once a week apply, a nourishing pack with mashed banana and honey. It acts as a great moisturizer. For oily skin, use a pack of tomato juice, grated cucumber and curd.
5. Massage pieces of tomato/cucumber all over your face and neck to “de-tan” immediately.
6. Massage two to three drops of pure coconut oil all over your body just after a shower. This will ensure a clear-toned complexion and nourished skin throughout the body.
7. Drink water whenever you can, at least 6 glasses a day. This is very necessary to flush out the toxins from the body.
8. Use plain coconut/almond oil or whichever oil suits you, but use it regularly, once a week at least. Massage onto your hair with gentle strokes and leave on for 1 hour.
9. For extremely dry hair, mix mashed banana and honey and apply on hair. Wash off with a gentle shampoo.
10. For an intensive hair nourishment, heat methi seeds in coconut oil and apply this oil for massage.
11. Make your own Herbal Kajal at Home: This is a 100% chemical free and vitamin E rich kajal that you can make at home. To make this kajal, you will need:

• Almond.
• Metal Skewer.
• Metal spoon.
• Candle.

Method:
Light a candle and hold almond near the flame until you feel the heat. Hold the spoon in an inverted position above the almond, so that it will collect the soot. Allow the almond to burn for some time and you can see soot is collecting on the spoon. Now add some coconut oil to the soot and mix it using Q-tip. Almond kajal is extremely easy to make and you can use it on a daily basis.

12. Aspirin Face Pack to Fight Acne: Aspirin tablets with their salicylic acid formula helps to reduce acne and breakouts. They are inexpensive and can be bought from the local pharmacy at 10 INR or less. To make this anti-acne pack, take one tablet, smash it, and mix it with water to make it as a paste and apply on the breakouts. Keep for 5 minutes and rinse away with water. You can use this mask twice a week.
