Maruti Suzuki is currently giving final touches to the second-gen Celerio and as reported by us recently, the market launch and price announcement for the new Maruti Suzuki hatchback is expected to take place in the coming months. While the new Celerio has not been unveiled officially, a fresh set of patent renderings that have surfaced online give us a clear image of what the new Celerio could look like on the outside.
- New Celerio to be bigger in size than the outgoing car
- To come with two engine options
- Will get a CNG variant as well
New Maruti Suzuki Celerio: What do these patent renderings reveal?
The second-gen Celerio’s exterior design is a complete departure from the outgoing version’s squarish looks. The new car gets a rounded design that is devoid of any angular elements. Additionally, it also gets a more upright nose, a flattish-oval grille with honeycomb-like elements and triangular-shaped headlamps that are rounded at the corners. Both headlamps are connected by a chrome strip that merges in the centre with the Suzuki Logo. Expect higher variants to get chrome outline on the grille. The front bumper gets a simple design with minimal creases and will get contrast black bits on the apron and the fog light surrounds.
On the sides, the rounded look continues and going by the pictures, one can confirm that the new Celerio will be a bit bigger than its predecessor in overall dimensions. The wheelbase and the glasshouse seem to be extended which is evident, thanks to a long-ish tapering roofline. The glass house seems decent-sized too with a straight-ish shoulder line.
The new Celerio’s rear continues with the rounded design and gets wraparound taillamps and a simple bumper design. The car overall seems wider when viewed from the rear. The patent renderings also confirm that the new Celerio will use lift-type door handles and not the more upmarket pull-type units that are seen on the outgoing car. Additionally, one can expect part sharing from other Maruti Suzuki models which would include wing mirrors, window switches, seats, infotainment and control stalks. The new Celerio being a budget hatchback would come with a standard antenna and will get 13-inch alloy wheels, according to sources.
New Maruti Suzuki Celerio: What else is known?
Sources tell us that the new Celerio will move to Maruti Suzuki’s modular Heartect platform just like its other newer models. The new hatchback will share a lot mechanically with the latest-gen WagonR. Under the hood, the new Celerio is expected to come with an 83hp 1.2-litre petrol engine along with the 1.0-litre three-cylinder K10 engine. Gearbox options are likely to be similar to the Wagon R as well, with a 5-speed manual as standard and a 5-speed AMT offered as an option. While the new Celerio was expected to launch earlier this year, the price announcement of the new Maruti Suzuki hatchback has been pushed multiple times, thanks to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic related lockdown-like situations. Additionally, the global semi-conductor shortage has also resulted in many manufacturers delaying new product launches globally.
