(gomocs.com) The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga football team climbed two spots to No. 9 in this week’s Stats Perform FCS Top 25. The Mocs are coming off a 20-18 win at Furman, where the defense locked down a strong Paladin offense on Saturday in Greenville, S.C.
This is the highest national ranking for the Mocs since reaching No. 9 when they traveled to Sam Houston State in the 2016 FCS Playoffs. Chattanooga is 3-1 overall and 3-0 in Southern Conference action. VMI leads the league with a 4-0 tally, while ETSU is third at 2-1. All other teams have at least two losses.
Junior Ty Boeck led the Mocs’ stout defensive effort with two takeaways and a team-high eight tackles. He earned both Stats Perform National Defensive Player of the Week and Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week presented by GEICO.
It is the first time Boeck has earned national recognition and his second career SoCon honor. He was the league’s player of the week after posting 12 tackles, including 2.0 TFLs and a pair of forced fumbles against Mercer in 2019.
In Saturday’s win at Furman, he had a diving interception to end the Paladins’ first drive. “That was my first interception since middle school,” joked Boeck after the game.
On Furman’s second play of their next possession, Boeck recovered a fumbled handoff, setting the tone for the rest of the afternoon. The Paladins were held to just 170 yards on 57 plays for the game. It was the fewest total yards allowed in the 50-game series with Furman.
