Topline

Twitter banned the MyPillow account Monday after its CEO, Trump-ally Mike Lindell, used it to evade his own ban from the platform, another consequence for the company becoming increasingly embroiled in Lindell’s public controversies.

Key Facts

A Twitter spokesperson told Forbes that MyPillow was permanently suspended for violating the social network’s ban evasion policy, meaning Lindell used the MyPillow account to circumvent his own ban.

Lindell used the MyPillow account to tweet Sunday morning that, “Jack Dorsey is trying to cancel me (Mike Lindell) out!” and that “Jack will be found out and should be put in prison when all is revealed!”

Lindell, along with other Trump allies Sidney Powell and Lin Wood, were banned last week amid Twitter’s crackdown on misinformation and conspiracy theories in the wake of Capitol riots, which followed Trump’s own ban from the platform.

MyPillow did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Forbes.

Key Background

Lindell, a major Trump supporter and donor, first gained notoriety for pitching an untested extract called Oleandrin as a potential treatment for the coronavirus, despite having no medical background. Since then, he’s stayed in Trump’s orbit and was a major disseminator of the baseless conspiracy theory that the election was stolen from Trump with the help of Dominion Voting Systems. Lindell even met with Trump and White House lawyers during his last week as president, suggesting the administration replace CIA director Gina Haspell with Trump loyalist Kash Patel. Lindell was photographed outside the White House with documents referencing the possibility of invoking martial law or the Insurrection Act to keep Trump in office.

Tangent

In addition to its Twitter suspension, MyPillow is facing a boycott from Wayfair, Bed Bath & Beyond, Kohl’s and H-E-B, all of which refuse to carry the company’s products.
