As the world churns and burns, we click. Games like Cookie Clicker and Universal Paperclips have served to keep our minds in check, focused on a seemingly pointless task that requires minimal effort but still triggering our reward centers. There is no risk, hyper-clicking our mouse buttons (or spamming the enter key) makes us simply feel better as the fires of sociopolitical turmoil rage around us. The only thing that could enhance this experience is an actual reward for clicking.

If there’s going to be an award for clicking, it’s going to come from internet fun bois and digital raconteurs, MSCHF. You may remember that time MSCHF gave away $25k to those who could keep their finger on their phones the longest. While King of The Clicks doesn’t offer so robust an award, it still provides a much necessary break from reality that may come with a bonus for participating. We need these things in our lives, no longer limited to the mundane, but filled with reasons to give up on the workday and click until the Carpal Tunnel sets in.

King of The Clicks is extremely simple. Designed like a Mike Tyson’s Punch Out!! mini-game, the goal is to just get the most clicks. Prior to public launch, the current click leader is around 500k. There are no rules as to how you click. You can click one by one on the mouse, hold down both enter keys to auto-click or write a script that auto-clicks for you. There will surely be millions of clicks to compete against once the clicking starts in earnest. If anything, this is a mailing list grab, as participation requires communication information.

There is a prize at the end however. The site states it’s a castle, but I’m told it’s a monetary prize. MSCHF doesn’t roll cheap (it must have money laying around to pay for its lawyers needed for some of its endeavors), offering juicy prizes for simple, time-wasting activities. The real prize is the available distraction to a never-ending cesspool of reality, slowly engulfing our physical bodies after seeping in through our waking minds.

The game is simple; when you signup you get a landing page and compete against the current leaderboard champ for clicks. You can share your personalized link and get your friends to help, either adding to your clicks or removing clicks from the champ. Click, click, click your cares away in a moderately delightful fashion. King of The Clicks follows in the fashion of its click-centric predecessors with simplicity, ease of use, and deep psychological purpose. Click to find out if your brain has melted beyond repair, or if the stresses of the world at-large can be held at bay for just a little bit longer.

MORE FOR YOU

King of The Clicks runs from today until January 18th at 12pm EST, at which point a winner will be crowned and the rest of us will have to find a new clicking experience, an old clicking experience or at least something to click on that means next to nothing. Sometimes finding meaning in life is doing something devoid of such (to a point) so that we may quietly reflect on the things that bring us true pain. Become the King of The Clicks and you may never need to be troubled by this crazy world again (or at least until the prize money runs out).
