Walt’s Kitchen Is A Devilishly Delicious Dig At Disney

There is a future in which Disney, Comcast, Amazon, Google, and Facebook are fighting an actual war for control of the world. There is no reason to think that any one of these corporations could be eventually running things at a political, economic, and sociological level. So for the time being, its reasonable to mildly embrace any opportunity to enjoy any edgy, satirical project aimed at one of these corporations. Such it is with Walt’s Kitchen, a reason for Disney lawyers to stretch their copyright muscles.

From the font, to the Mickey gloves, to actual names of the bastardized Disney characters on their way to digestion, there is plenty here for Disney lawyers to feast on. That’s kind of the point when it comes to MSCHF endeavors. Its subversion used to challenge the status quo, create psychological conundrums that perverted our traditional way of viewing the technological world, but now it seems the point is to see how quick it can get threatened by a corporation. Which, supposedly serves to prove its own point about the world we live in.

There are nine Disney-focused recipes to choose from; deer, duck, pig, chicken, fish, octopus, rabbit, crab, and cricket. You can guess the characters. Each recipe landing page features the full recipe and a TikTok-style quick video showing the combination of ingredients and cook, layered with Disney-style music.

The floating heads of dismembered Disney characters clearly fall within parody rights, and as Walt’s Kitchen isn’t selling anything, that should slip under the legal radar. The only remorse from the MSCHF team however, is that they didn’t have enough time to create a destructive recipe for every aspect of the Disney corporation.

“We wish we could do this to the entire Disney corporation, which is a monstrous anti-trust violation actively blanding culture, but we’ll have to settle for symbolically taking it out on their little critters,” said a MSCHF representative in between bites of super-rare venison. “People have always cooked with their favorite Disney characters, and we wanted to do this literally, so we are letting you cook with your favorite Disney character for real.”

MORE FOR YOU

Disney has been extremely protective of its copyright over the years, to the point of actually affecting United States copyright law. Most recently, it’s on the list of major corporations hitting Twitch streamers with DMCA notices. Congress just made this action easier, as in exchange for your $600, corporations now have more power in DMCA situations. The point is, like many MSCHF projects, there is no doubt that Walt’s Kitchen will be served with a cease and desist moments after it hits viral status.

There’s no manifesto with this one, as the subversion should be obvious here, especially if MSCHF gets hit with any kind of DMCA notice before noon. It wouldn’t surprise me if Disney attempted to erase any evidence of Walt’s Kitchen ever existing from every corner of the internet, including this one. Though, there is a chance that Disney will ignore it, as it doesn’t really tread new ground. Remember that time Bambi met Godzilla? Disney parody has existed for a long, long time. Perhaps we can enjoy this one as long as it takes to make some braised rabbit.
