Recently, while doing a podcast for youth, the anchors asked me to suggest some valuable tips for all such students who could not succeed in competitive examinations like JEE, NEET, CLAT, etc. As an instant response, I said, “let every individual on earth know the fact that failures are milestones where you begin the journey of your future success!

Someone somewhere said this, “If your aim is to hit the sky and you throw a stone high up in the air, you might miss the sky, but you will definitely have reached somewhere closer to it!” More critical is to know-how passionately, and desperately you wish to accomplish your dream? A wall on the road is never meant to stop you from moving ahead. It only tests your level of keenness. If you are aspiring enough, you will climb over it. If that’s not technically possible, you will find a way out. After all, the ‘U-turns’ and ‘L-turns’ are supposed to be helping us move ahead and not distracting us from our goals!

Once upon a time, I dreamt of pursuing higher education in management at one of the prestigious IIM’s. I did my preparations well, but something happened before the examination day, which changed my life.

Well, that unfulfilled dream gave me much more in life than what I could have accomplished otherwise. It taught me invaluable lessons from student life. Today, I use all my experiences of success (or lack of it) to guide youth and empower them. As a career counselor, in the past three decades, I have touched about 2 lac school students’ lives. Believe me, enabling the dreams of others is even more powerful and a soulfully satiating experience.

The other day, someone said, “You are good at giving sermons because you may have never lost in life.” Friends, winning, or losing is nothing but a matter of attitude. Be it your corporate life or student life, the principles of success remain the same. Feeling depressed is an easy task and a loser’s rendezvous. Accepting defeat and still retaining one’s self-confidence is the winner’s lifestyle. The fact of the matter is that success is a stingy teacher, while failure brings many lessons.

If you desire a particular milestone in life, the primary eligibility criterion is to deserve it first. The question usually asked is, what will make me ‘deserve’ that specific dream?

The answer is your homework in two stages.

All dreams are good as long as they are purposeful, realistic, and socially acceptable. The first set of elimination is to know that your dream qualifies valid as per these criteria.

The next stage is to make ‘significant efforts’ to achieve your dreams. When you pass through these two stages successfully, you become the Master of your dream.

Sometimes I get to meet a few people who feel discouraged and dejected out of some unsuccessful ventures. I ask them what all you did to achieve those goals? Do you think you did everything possible on this earth to have achieved it? And still, you failed? If the fellow says yes, I tell him to plan a revised strategy that begins from ‘Neptune’. When you think the last feasible effort has been made yet success unachieved, the most powerful means has not yet been touched.

When you badly want something, the complete universe conspires to make it happen for you. If you haven’t yet achieved your goal, remember the road is not closed – it’s time to keep moving ahead. All victorious people have had the character to bounce back – failure after failure, till they could hit high.

Failure has a bad habit of shaking the doer’s confidence. Beware. If you think it is a failure, do an instant ‘fact check’ about your courage. If you are strong enough, you are still a ‘star’. However, if your bravery has got hit, the first thing to do is recharge yourself.

You kiss success only when you have the desired ‘escape velocity’ to overcome a thousand resistances. Once you gain momentum, the door to a million possibilities opens for you. Be like a rocket, become empowered, and aim for the sky.
