Xiaomi is focusing a lot on the premium smartphone segment this year in India. Earlier this year, the company launched the Mi 10 5G series in the country and then the second half of the year saw the launch of Mi 10T Pro. With this latest smartphone series, the company aims to take on OnePlus as it is offering all the high-end specifications under Rs 40,000 making it a formidable choice. The Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro packs all the essentials of a premium smartphone and promises to deliver smooth performance in all segments. We used the affordable premium smartphone from Xiaomi for some time and here’s our complete review.
Design and display
This year we saw some really good looking smartphones in the premium segment and some of those smartphones came from the house of Xiaomi. The smartphone maker launched two series of premium smartphones this year and one of them is the Mi 10T series. The smartphone series consists of two devices and Mi 10T Pro is the expensive one.
Design-wise, the Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro does look and feel premium. The handset comes with a metal frame design which is covered by glass. The smartphone comes with a punch-hole display and it houses a chunky camera on the rear panel. Weighing 218 grams, the smartphone is a bit heavy. The device features a 6.67-inch display which makes it not pocketable. The ergonomically designed smartphone is surrounded by a metal ribbon which offers a smooth grip. You will find the power button which also doubles up as a fingerprint sensor located on the right. Along with the power button, you will also notice the volume rockers on the right side. The bottom of the smartphone houses the SIM card tray, USB Type-C charging port and speaker. The top consists of Xiaomi’s regular IR blaster. The Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro has a curved rear panel which consists of a triple rear camera which is placed inside a rectangular frame. You will also notice the Xiaomi branding on the rear panel. The rear panel is also made scratch resistant with a coating of Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on top. The Mi 10T Pro will definitely not disappoint you in the department of looks.
Coming to the display, the Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro offers one of the fastest displays in this price segment. The smartphone comes with a 6.67-inch IPS display with 1080×2400 pixel resolution and 20:9 aspect ratio. The smartphone is protected with a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on top and it offers 144Hz refresh rate. The display is super responsive and if you are a gamer then you will enjoy the fast refresh rate of the handset. The company has also incorporated AdaptiveSync technology in the device which helps in dynamically switching between refresh rates on the basis of the apps running on the smartphone. Moreover, you can also manually switch the refresh rate from the Settings menu. The display is surrounded by thin bezels on all sides and it is bright enough to offer good visibility under direct sunlight. The viewing angles are also fine and the display also comes with HDR10 support which enhances binge-watching experience. Along with this, you get the usual display feature like Reading mode, Colour Scheme and more. Just like the design, the display of the smartphone also looks great and offers an immersive viewing experience.
The Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro is powered by the high-end octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor paired with 8GB of RAM. The handset comes in two storage options — 128GB and 256GB. Users can further expand the storage by adding a microSD card. Thanks to the processor and the huge RAM the smartphone turns out to be a smooth performer and you will not face any lag at any point of time. The smartphone is suitable for playing graphic-intensive games. We had a good time playing games like Call of Duty, Asphalt 9, and others. The handset also works fine during multi-tasking and the editing apps also worked smoothly on the handset.
Coming to the audio, the Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro comes with dual speakers. The primary loudspeaker is located at the bottom whereas the small secondary unit is placed at the top. The smartphone performs well on loudspeakers, but you will notice some distortion on higher volume levels. This time the company has ditched the 3.5mm audio jack and there is USB support for audio. Music experience turned out to be pretty good over Bluetooth.
Just like most of the Xiaomi smartphones, the Mi 10T Pro also runs Android 10 operating system topped with the company’s own layer of MIUI 12. You will not find an app drawer of the Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro, this means all your downloaded apps are placed on the home screen.
Apart from this, the smartphone offers everything you can expect from an Android smartphone. The company has not completely removed the bloatware from the Mi 10 5G and the unnecessary notifications do bug users from time to time (unless you disable them). The UI is pretty clean and easy to use. With the Mi 10T Pro, the company has replaced the notification centre with the new control centre. The design of the control centre matches a lot to that of iOS on the iPhone. The company has placed some important toggles together which occupies the entire display. The MIUI 12 also brings features like navigation gestures, knuckle triggers, focus mode and more.
The Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro sports a triple rear camera setup which consist of a 108MP main sensor with f/1.7 aperture, 13MP ultra-wide angle lens with f/2.4 aperture and a 5MP macro sensor with f/2.4 aperture. The front is home to a 20MP selfie shooter with f/2.2 aperture. With the Mi 10T Pro, Xiaomi has shifted its focus on the two main cameras — the 108MP main sensor and a 20MP selfie shooter. Also, the company has not included any telephoto or depth lenses in the smartphone.
The 108MP main camera of the smartphone offers some really amazing shots with accurate colour reproduction. The images reproduced by the main camera offer a balanced amount of contrast and sharpness. The images captured using the main camera are binned down to 22MP. The images captured under broad daylight offer ample amount of detailing. The evening shots of the smartphone turned out pretty well with very little visible noise. The Night mode of the camera also works well and the camera manages to capture a lot of light even in darkest situations. The macro shots and closeups clicked using the Mi 10T Pro turned out really well. The best part was that the camera reproduced the same colours and the images never looked artificial. The 20MP selfie camera also works fine and it manages to pick up the right skin tone. The selfies captured in the portrait mode also turned out quite well.
The Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro is backed by a 5,000 mAh battery. During our testing, the smartphone offered a good battery backup. The smartphone can easily last a day of moderate usage. The company has also incorporated 33W fast charging support on the handset. During our time with the device, we noticed that it charged completely in 50 minutes. Unlike the Xiaomi Mi 10 5G, this one does not offer wireless charging support.
Xiaomi Mi 1oT Pro comes with a starting price tag of Rs 39,999 and it packs all the important features of a premium smartphone. The device is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 865 processor and packs 5,000 mAh battery with support for fast charging. The device features a triple rear camera and a big display with 144Hz of refresh rate. All these things make this smartphone a complete package and a good deal. Still, if you are looking for alternatives, then you can consider buying the OnePlus 8T which retails at a slightly higher price tag.
