As per the latest Counterpoint report, Realme has turned out to be the fastest-growing smartphone brand. The company managed to become one of the top 5 smartphone brands in key markets including India. This growth of the company is attributed not only to the smartphones but also to the other products offered by the company. One such category which is getting a lot of attention from Realme is audio products. The smartphone maker recently launched its affordable pair of true wireless earbuds — Relame Buds Air Pro in the country. The earbuds retail at Rs 4,999 and come with active noise cancellation. We used the device for some time to test how it performed. So, before purchasing a pair for yourself read our complete review.

It will not be wrong to say that Realme has taken a different design approach with the launch of Realme Buds Air Pro. The latest true wireless earbuds from Realme come with a cobble-shape design which is similar to that of the OnePlus Buds. The charging case of the device comes with a smooth and glossy texture and consists of an LED light and a charging port. The Realme Buds Air Pro comes in two colour options — Rock Black and Soul White and its flatter and smooth design make it more pocketable. You will notice an LED light on the front of the charging case which indicates the battery status of the device. The case also consists of the Realme branding and the bottom houses a USB Type C charging port. You will find the pairing button on the right side of the device. You can easily pull out the earbuds from the charging case and in fact, the strong magnets help in keeping the earbuds in place.

Coming to the earbuds, the Realme Buds Air Pro are pretty lightweight and they have the same glossy texture as the charging case. The earbuds come with an oval-shaped design which has a fairly long stem. The earbuds also consist of the touch sensors which help in controlling the music and answering phone calls. The touch controls are responsive enough and are also pretty easy to use. The company is also giving three different sets of silicone buds with the earbuds for a perfect fit. Its lightweight design makes it easier for users to use the earbuds for a long duration of time. The earbuds also come with an IPX4 rating which makes them water-resistant. This means that you can use them during your workout sessions. The device also comes with wear detection functionality which means that the music will automatically stop when you will pull out the earbud from your ear. The Realme Buds Air Pro offers a design which is pretty good at this price range.

Features and performance
The Realme Buds Air Pro offers a lot of features which most people would want to have in their pair of true wireless earbuds. However, the company has also included features which you will find only on high-end TWS which are Active Noise cancellation and Transparency mode. The Realme Buds Air Pro comes with the company’s own S1 noise cancellation chip which manages to cancel up to 35dB of noise. The company manages to do so with the help of two microphones — one feedback and one feedforward. The microphones collect ambient noise information and then cancel them out by creating opposite sound waves. On the other hand, the Transparency mode improves ambient sounds so that users can remain aware of their surroundings while listening to music.

The earbuds also offer a Gaming Mode which can be activated by simply pressing and holding the touch sensors present on both the earbuds for 2-3 seconds. During our testing, the Gaming mode worked really well and the latency rate was almost negligible. You can also use the Realme Buds Air Pro in mono mode, this means that you can use any of the one earbuds at a time. The new true wireless earbuds from Realme are powered by Bluetooth 5.0 and come with SBC and AAC codec support. You can connect the earbuds with the smartphone via the Bluetooth settings to using Google’s Fast Pair technology. The Fast Pair functionality is quite comfortable and convenient to use. Along with this, the earbuds also offer support for Siri and Google Assistant.

The Realme Buds Air Pro allows users to customise the controls with the help of the Realme Link app. The earbuds can be connected using the Realme Link app. Using the app you can also switch between Active Noise Cancellation, Transparency mode and General Modes. Along with this, you also get an option to choose which modes you want to use with which touch control.

The app also enables users to on/off the Game mode, use Volume Enhancer and Bass Boost+. The Bass Boost+ mode just amplifies the bass response and during out testing the mode worked really well.

As mentioned earlier, you can customise the touch controls. However, by default, you can double-tap on any of the earbuds to pause or play the music and with a triple tap, you can go to the next track. Tapping and holding any of the earbuds help in switching modes between ANC, Transparency and General modes. So, you are allowed to customise all these functions as per your need.

Realme Buds Air Pro are probably the only earbuds in this price segment which offer active noise cancellation. The ANC functionality worked well and we were quite impressed with the outcome. The earbuds manage to suppress the ambient noise to a certain level offering a fairly good user experience. On the other hand, the Transparency mode also works well making you aware of your surroundings.

The true wireless earbuds come with 10mm Bass Boost drivers which manage to boost the bass and treble frequencies and suppress the mids. At an affordable price of Rs 5,000, the Realme Buds Air Pro offers a good sound experience. The earbuds manage to keep the bass separate and the mids don’t bleed into the bass. You can also easily differentiate between the instruments and the vocals. The highs were reproduced well most of the time and you might notice a little bit of distortion at higher volumes. In all the Realme Buds Air Pro does perform well in comparison to other earbuds in this price segment.

Talking about the battery life, the Realme Buds Air Pro manages to churn out 5 hours of battery backup on a single charge and with the charging case the battery increases to up to 25 hours.
Realme Buds Air Pro retail at a price of Rs 4,999. The earbuds come with a water-resistant design and they are also active noise cancellation which is hard to find in this price segment. The earbuds also manage to deliver a pretty good audio experience and you will also not have any complaint with its battery backup.
