If there is one device that has seen a massive rise in popularity this year then it is tablets. Multiple research agencies have pointed out quarter after quarter the soaring shipments from vendors, especially fuelled by tightened demand after work from home and school from home situations.
Naturally, tablet makers can sense the newly established demand and are offering their best to tap into the market and one such recent entrant is the Galaxy Tab A7 from the house of Samsung. While looking for a tablet, a typical buyer looks for lasting battery life and a pleasing viewing experience and, especially after Covid times, a good front camera.
We tested the device to find out if it has everything to be your next purchase and here is our review:
Design and display
The Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 sports a sleek design with a metallic finish that certainly makes it look premium. It doesn’t feel too heavy for its size and you won’t feel uncomfortable even if you have to hold it in one hand for a prolonged period.
Samsung sells the Galaxy Tab A7 in three colour options — Grey, Silver and Gold — and we got the Grey one as our review unit, which could be the safest colour choice for anyone considering. The non-glossy back is soothing and does not scream for attention, which we really liked.
With this tablet, Samsung offers a TFT display with 2000 x 1200-pixel resolution, that is 10.4-inch in size and is good enough for the price it is available at. You will have an enjoyable viewing experience whether it includes video calls, online classes or long binge-watching sessions. The colours on the screen turn out to be crisp and accurate.
Performance and camera
The display experience is complemented with the 4 speakers — 2 are placed on each side in landscape mode — and are quite loud. You do not feel the need to attach any external speakers for your everyday needs.
Powering the tablet is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 SoC, paired with 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. Users get up to 19.6GB internal storage for use with a microSD card support of up to 1TB, which is advised for a no-hiccup experience. Everyday tasks such as internet browsing, video calls, streaming online content was a lag-free affair.
In terms of software, the tablet runs on Android 10 with version 2.5 of One UI out of the box and comes with basic yet essential features such as Quick Share. Users get some pre-installed apps such as YouTube, Netflix already there.
When it comes to the cameras, the Galaxy Tab A7 is quite basic as it offers an 8MP sensor on the back and a 5MP sensor on the front. While it is better than some of the competition tablets, the images turn out to be just functional.
When it comes to the battery life of the Galaxy Tab A7, we can easily say that it is the most impressive aspect of the device.
While the battery life varies on the usage for every user, but you can get about 12 hours of screen time on a single charge.
Available at a starting price of Rs 16,999, the Galaxy Tab A7 is easily a complete value-for-money device.
You get a good package of essential specs from a reliable brand to satisfy your everyday needs. Unless you want an iPad. If you are fine with a tablet which isn’t an iPad and don’t want to spend too much, the Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 will be a good bet.
